Brand new £25,000 Chase is the feature draw in £65,000 card

Perth Racecourse’s Autumn Raceday, on Monday 11 September, is already turning heads after a 75% increase in prize money, to £65,000, has attracted top trainers from across the UK and Ireland to enter some high calibre horses.

The meeting, which has previously run over two days, was reduced to a single day this year via the on-going fixture process and the racecourse executive decided to ensure the fixture offered unmissable prize-money.  Brand new for this year is the £25,000 Sodexo Prestige Venues and Events Killicrankie Handicap Chase, in which Hammersly Lake, trained by Charlie Longsdon of Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, is top rated (149).

Also in the field is Mountain King, yet undefeated at Perth Racecourse after three course victories, from the Gordon Elliot yard and previously always partnered by champion jockey Richard Johnson.

Pupils from Bellbaxter Primary School in Cupar will also be in attendance on race day. The group of 20 pupils are visiting as part of the Racing to School programme, which gives young people access to racecourses and trainers’ yards to inspire them into the racing industry as a hobby and future career.

Premium estate agent, Savills UK will also be hosting their annual staff day at the racecourse, involving a morning seminar and an afternoon at the races with 220 employees from across their Scottish offices.

Hazel Peplinski, chief executive at Perth Racecourse, said: “After a very hectic summer programme it is hard to believe we just have the three days in September yet to stage. The entries are really promising for Monday. It’s this time of year when the larger National Hunt yards are beginning to roll and it is all becoming very exciting for National Hunt fans – lots of familiar horses shall make their eagerly-awaited reappearances in the coming weeks.  The buzz never stops at Perth – some ambitious planning is already well underway for 2018 to keep the strong momentum created from this season going in to next spring when it all starts again.”

Autumn Raceday is being sponsored by Sodexo Prestige, the long-term catering partner of Perth Racecourse and there shall be a number of opportunities for racegoers to sample various food and drink offerings within the enclosures on the day.

Tickets are priced from £18 for the Grandstand and £10 for students and OAPS. Gates open at 12 noon, and the first race is scheduled for 2.05pm and the last race at 5.05pm.
