Perth racecourse is set to host one of Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Miles on Sunday 21st March and to tie in with its location, they are inviting participants to get into the spirit of the racing world and cover the distance on a hobby horse.
Usually accustomed to seeing jockeys mounted on horseback racing around the course, Perth Racecourse’s Sport Relief mile will see children and adults alike create their own hobby horses, raise sponsorship for Sport Relief and run with other hobby horse ‘jockeys’.
Hundreds of thousands of people across the country will rise to the challenge at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, raising sponsorship to help poor and vulnerable people both here in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
Sam Morshead, the General Manager at Perth Racecorse said: “We are delighted to the hosting the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile. From teeny-tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock there’s something for everyone on the big day – whether you choose to do 1, 3 or 6 miles. Best of all, the money you raise by getting sponsored will be used to transform lives forever. So, take to the racecourse, have fun and rise to the challenge!”
The event will set off from the Grandstands on Sunday 21st March at 11.30am and although hobby horses are optional, participants are encouraged to get creative and design their own hobby horses. Prizes will be given to the most creatively designed hobby horse as well as to the participant with the fastest time.
Hobby horses could be made out of broom handles (or purchase them).
