GOLDEN
JUBILEE
CITY OF PERTH GOLD CUP DAY
AT PERTH RACECOURSE
Perth
Racecourse held it's annual big family meeting on Sunday 4th August
2002. Over 12,000 people came to the Scone Palace course to enjoy
a great day's racing and family fun day out. This year the Queen's
Golden Jubilee was commemorated with the main race of the day
'The Golden Jubilee City of Perth Gold Cup' the most valuable
race ever run at Perth with £25,000 added.
A
party atmosphere was the order of the day with children's entertainment
such as falconry displays prior to racing, ferret racing, kids
quad bikes, face painting, bouncy castles and much more.
Sam
Morshead, Clerk of the Course and General Manager at Perth, said:
"Perth Gold Cup Day is now firmly established as one of the
great family days out in Perthshire. Scone Palace Park is the
perfect backdrop to a magical day. A day when some of the best
jockeys and horses come to Scotland and even they can fade into
the background amidst a sea of families having fun.
The
recent weather gave us some cause for concern, but we have missed
the worst of it and the weather on the day couldn't have been
better. We have had yet another wonderful day's racing"
Provost
Mike O'Malley was equally joyful that the Gold Cup Day has been
such a success "Many of the people I spoke to had never been
to a race meeting before and did not realise that they could have
such a good and enjoyable day for such a low cost"
The
racecourse welcomes visitors from all over the U.K and Ireland
with many new visitors discovering the racing spectacle for the
first time. The prizemoney ensures that the best of the National
Hunt racing fraternity travel up north for this fixture.
Julie
Manners, Marketing Manager said: "The Golden Jubilee City
of Perth Gold Cup Day is an event not to be missed. The racecourse
always has a special atmosphere, but this year's event has been
to be the best yet with many other attractions on hand in addition
to the racing."
For the first time there was additional parking to ease traffic
congestion. Those who did not wish to bring their cars to the
racecourse made use of a free bus service which ran on Sunday
from Perth Park and Ride at the Broxden roundabout from 11.00am
to 1.30 pm.
