Perth
Racecourse's successful season in 2002 culminated with the
award for "The Best Small Racecourse in Scotland and
the North East" from the Racegoers Club. Over 50,000
people attended the racing at Perth during the 2002 season,
including many first time racegoers from both the U.K and
overseas. With two new race dates in July 2003, there are
even more opportunities to discover the excitement of horse
racing and the unique Perth atmosphere.

Sam
Morshead General Manager said " Some people try and
tell us that the winter must be our quiet period, that is
a long way from the truth. This winter we have been very
busy completing a number of refurbishments, including the
main public Snack Bar and small Club Bar upstairs, which
we are opening up to provide a wonderful view of both the
racecourse and the parade ring. This will become the Taittinger
Champagne and Wine Bar, which I am sure will prove popular.
The winter period is also the time when we place a large
number of our corporate clients and sell the sponsorship
opportunities to enhance their day with us. This year's
prize money looks nothing short of fantastic with a near
50% increase on top of prize money that was well above average
last season. It should be another memorable year in the
history of Perth Racecourse and we are looking forward to
a tremendous Festival Meeting on April 23rd, 24th and 25th,
featuring a new race The Bank of Scotland Highland National
on the 24th and The Press & Journal Steeplechase on
Friday 25th".
The
popular Festival meeting, which saw record crowds in 2002,
will be the most valuable three day National Hunt meeting
in Scotland in 2003 with over £230,000 of prize money
to be won. The Festival, without doubt will be attended
by some of the U.K's top jockeys including the Champion
Jockey Tony McCoy, who compete during the day and then join
in the festival atmosphere by night. After the pressures
of Cheltenham and Aintree, it is a chance for both the trainers
and jockeys alike to relax and enjoy the party at Perth.
Proceeds to the Scott Taylor appeal and the Injured Jockey's
Fund.
