PERTH TO PAY PRIZE MONEY DOWN TO 8TH PLACE

ALL RACES, AT CERTAIN FIXTURES AT PERTH RACECOURSE DURING THE SUMMER OF 2004 WILL CARRY PRIZE MONEY DOWN TO 8TH PLACE. A TOTAL OF £25,000 HAS BEEN ALLOCATED FROM RACECOURSE FUNDS TO BE SPREAD OVER THE FOUR DAYS RACING AT PERTH IN JULY AND AUGUST. TOTAL PRIZE MONEY ON OFFER OVER THIS SUMMER PERIOD WILL BE JUST UNDER £200,000.

SAM MORSHEAD, PERTH GENERAL MANAGER SAID; " Our average, the amount of runners per race in 2002 was 9.3 and in 2003 9.6, considering our geographic position these are very respectable figures and we continue to move in the right direction. However, in this changing environment we cannot afford to be complacent and by providing this extra incentive we hope that only on rare occasions will we have fields of less than eight runners. There are one or two big trainers in the South of Scotland and North of England who do not keep horses going through the summer.

We can provide Good Ground on excellent turf in the driest of summers, as we proved this year, and have on offer prize money considerably above minimum values. I hope that this extra incentive will encourage owners to have horses in training during the summer and so they can enjoy regular opportunities to win some good prize money and cover their travel costs on a regular basis".
