Perth Racecourse is proud to announce that it's new £2m Nelson Stand will be officially opened on the 22nd April 2005 by Mr Alex Salmond M.P. Mr Salmond has been a supporter of racing in Scotland for a number of years and the new Grandstand at Perth will be a fantastic new public facility with the aim of attracting even more people to enjoy a day at the races.
Mr Alex Salmond commented today "Perth Racecourse has long been known as one of the most beautiful and friendly of racecourses - as well as providing the best summer jumping ground in the country! Now, it will also have the facilities to match it's scenic grandeur and quality of racing. On behalf of all the Friends of Scottish Racing Parliamentary Group, I am delighted to see this latest investment in Scottish racing".
The new Grandstand will also be an integral part in the growing non raceday business at the Racecourse. It will incorporate a ground floor with ample space for product launches and displays and has been designed to accommodate the needs of the vibrant local car sales business as one of the many options that will be available. The Galileo Restaurant upstairs with wonderful views across to the River Tay will dine 175 guests and provide one of the biggest dining areas in central Scotland and among other things a very special new wedding venue, in a unique rural location. It will have the capacity to host delegates from 10 to 250 with free parking for 2000 + cars.
Perth Racecourse is continually investing and developing to meet the needs of it's customers and the growing business market with an eye for unusual venues.
The 2004 season saw a record number of companies from across the U.K entertaining their clients and guests at Perth Racecourse, and record prizemoney being won on the course. This season all the racing action from Perth can be seen live on Sky T.V's attheraces channel. The first race will be soon near 2pm each day of the Perth Festival (20th , 21st & 22nd April 2005).
