Perth Racecourse is getting ready to host it's busiest and most valuable race meeting of the year, The City of Perth Gold Cup Day on Sunday 5th June 2005. Over 10,000 people come each year to the Scone Palace Park course to enjoy a great day's racing and a family fun day out. This year the main race is to be the Barr Construction City of Perth Gold Cup, it will be the most valuable race ever run at Perth with £30,000 added.

Barclay Chalmers, Managing Director of Barr Construction commented today "Barr Construction sponsors of the Perth Gold Cup are delighted to be supporting Perth Racecourse's biggest day of the Season having just completed the New Grandstand. The 2 storey building complete with full hospitality and betting facilities with a protected terracing area outside for spectators to view the closing stages of the races proved a big hit at the Spring Meeting in April. The new facilities are designed with non racing days in mind being available for functions and conferences which will introduce more people to the wonderful setting and views across the Perth countryside from the upper floor of the new building. Barr built its Stadia reputation in constructing and redeveloping to date over 40 football grounds including Southampton, Celtic, Hibernian, Fulham, Leyton Orient and Dundee and a state-of-the-art Training Academy for Rangers. Nowadays Barr are working in many sectors of the leisure business including Rugby and Cricket Grounds, Horse Racing and Leisure & Fitness Clubs all over the UK."

Julie Manners Marketing Manager said "This valuable day of exciting racing always has a very special atmosphere and is shaping up to be the best yet with many other attractions in addition to the racing. There will be a number of cars from the Honda Range on show including the Civic, Accord, CRV and FRV together with the Honda Type R. Also at the Racecourse will be the brand new Honda Jazz S, which is to be given away at the end of the season to a lucky racegoer. Just pick up and complete a competition entry form at the course to win the car". Helen Dobson from the Glenvarigill Group commented " We are delighted to be back to further strengthen our support for Perth Races and we are looking forward to the Gold Cup."

The significant prizemoney ensures that the best of the National Hunt racing fraternity travel up north for this fixture, the highlight of the local National Hunt season. A party atmosphere is the order of the day with a myriad of additional entertainment such as falconry displays prior to racing, horse vaulting and children's entertainment with kids quad bikes, face painting, a clown, bouncy castles and for the first time a crèche facility in the centre of the course.
