Perth Racecourse are delighted to be welcoming for the first time the world famous knights from The Devil's Horsemen. You can watch this spectacle of entertainment for the whole family as the knights joust in front of the Perth Racecourse stands at the race meeting on Sunday 10th July 2005. You will not want to miss this amazing display of both equine and human skill, before the main racing. These professional stunt riders have film credits ranging from the recent Hollywood blockbusters Troy, and Tomb Raider II to the Napoleonic drama Sharpe, and have over 30 years experience in the industry. If you have watched a film that includes dramatic stunts involving horses, there is a good chance that you have already witnessed the Devil's Horsemen at work.
Julie Manners Marketing Manager said "The medieval jousting is a very exciting addition to the pre-race programme and we are anticipating a warm welcome from the Perth Races crowd for the jousters and their magnificent steeds. Children will also have the opportunity to meet the horses and talk to the stunt riders that are performing, during the course of the day. With the addition of pony racing, another first for Perth Races, this is going to be a fantastic day out for the whole family".
For the first time at Perth, twenty two aspiring jockeys, between the ages of 12 and 14 will be competing in two Pony Races after the sixth and final race of the main card. These young riders, who are all members of their respective Pony Clubs, will be given an introduction to race riding by Graham Lee the 2005 Grand National winning jockey and will be de-briefed with the help of a video replay after their race. Strathearn and Fife Pony Clubs are well represented with English raiders from as far south as Cheshire coming to try and take home the Perth Pony Race silverware.
Also at the Racecourse will be the brand new Honda Jazz S, which is to be given away at the end of the season to a lucky racegoer. Just pick up and complete a competition entry form at the course to be in with a chance of winning the car. The British Horseracing "Discover Scottish Racing" stand will have racing professionals on hand to answer questions about all aspects of the racing industry, all you ever wanted to know and more.
Children will be well catered for with a myriad of additional entertainment such as falconry displays prior to racing, and children's quad bikes, face painting, a clown, bouncy castles and a crèche facility in the centre of the course. Free children's sticker & colouring packs will be available at the racecourse entrance and around the Racecourse.
The gates will open at 11.00am, with the Jousting between 12.00 and 2.00pm first race at 2.20pm and the last race at 5.20pm.
