Review of August Race Meeting 2005

Perth's top jockey, Tony Dobbin, rode a memorable five winners, Lahib The Fifth (4/6 fav), Overstrand (11/8 fav), Native Coral (3/1 jt fav), Possextown (13/8) and Kniaz (15/8 fav) at Scone's two-day August fixture.

Nicky Richards saddled Lahib The Fifth to win the novices' hurdle and Native Coral to lift the Arnold Clark Renault Handicap Chase on the 23rd, Scotland's final evening meeting of the summer, and Possextown sealed the Penrith trainer's third success in the Daily Record Handicap Chase on the 24th.

"Tony gave Native Coral a great ride and Possextown will return to Perth for the September meeting. He jumped very well and the three miles suited him," said Richards.

Dobbin also won on Martin Todhunter's Overstrand and excelled on Kniaz for Irish trainer Tony Martin, winning the Scottish Widows Investment Solutions Handicap Chase by a neck-Dobbin's 995th jumps winner in Britain.

Somerset trainer Philip Hobbs sent Fool On The Hill (8/15 fav) and Drumbeater (2/1), both ridden by Paddy Brennan, to seal a brace for the Minehead stable on Office Party Night and Ulster trainer James Clements saddled Just In Time, ridden by his 19-year-old son Steven, to win the Mackie Motors Renault Handicap Hurdle at odds of 25/1.

"That's Steven's first winner and he gave him a great front-running ride. It's really special to see him in the winner's enclosure," said the elated Scarva trainer.

Kate Walton's Fantastico (4/1 jt fav) won the Ossian's Ale Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle under Colm Sharkey and the 9/4 fav Rajam lifted the SIS Handicap Hurdle for Geoff Harker and William Kennedy.

SIS chief executive David Holdgate, on his first visit to Scone, said "Perth is a beautiful racecourse with a great atmosphere. I've thoroughly enjoyed my visit and the hospitality is first class."
