Perth Festival review (26-28 April 2006)



Ballycassidy (5/1) starred in winning the £30,000 betdaqxpress.co.uk Perth Festival Handicap Chase (for the Kilmany Cup) for Welsh trainer Peter Bowen at Scone on 27 April.

Jason Maguire gave Ballycassidy, the subject of bets of £11,000-£2000 and £10,000-£2000, a superb front-running ride to lift the three-mile showpiece by six lengths.

Welshman Roddy Owen, joint-owner of the 10-year-old, said: "He was coasting when he fell in the lead at the 25th fence in the Grand National. We're very proud of him."

Somerset trainer Laura Young enjoyed a memorable first success under Rules as Noble Buck (5/1) and Mark Bradburne won the £25,000 Press & Journal Highland National, beating the gallant 14-year-old Primitive Way by two and a half lengths in front of a 5000 crowd on 28 April.

Bradburne (29) said: "Noble Buck gave me a dream ride. He travelled super for me and jumped really well. I'm thrilled for Laura."

Ferdy Murphy's Noir Et Vert (25/1 and 11/4 jt fav) won on the 26th and 28th under Keith Mercer and Aces Four (5/1) sealed Perth Festival trebles for Murphy and Mercer.

Howard Johnson also celebrated a Scone treble as Lennon (9/1), Scotmail Too
(14/1) and Wee Bertie (9/2) all won under Ulster-born 5lb claimer Brian Hughes.

Tom George saddled Ryders Storm to win the S.B.J. Nelson Steavenson Novices'
Chase under Jason Maguire at odds of 4/1 and Maguire sealed a 34/1 brace on Key Phil (6/1) in the Allied Irish Bank (GB) Handicap Chase on 26 April.

Len Lungo's classy novice hurdler, Rasharrow (4/6 fav) attracted £22,000 in major bets in winning under Tony Dobbin and Lethem Air (7/1) won for Jedburgh trainer Tim Butt to secure a tartan Festival double.
