Becky and Charlie got married on a beautiful summer’s day here at Perth Racecourse. Their wedding day suited them to a tee with our rustic barn tying in perfectly to their tractor/farmyard theme. Here’s the story of how they met and how they came to celebrate their day with us…

 

Where did you meet?

Charlie and I met at Perth Young Farmers.

How was the big question popped?

Charlie popped the question on the Isle of Arran, on a beach at sunset - totally unexpected, 4 and a half years after we started dating. 

How did you end up choosing to get married at Perth Racecourse and why?

We had looked at a few venues in the Perthshire area and knew we wanted a barn style venue; the Racecourse had a barn and so much more! With the exclusive use of the grounds there was plenty of space for us to play around with and the different locations were brilliant. We got married in the marquee, drinks reception was in the Barn with the meal and dancing in the Galileo Suite. 

What did you find was the most helpful thing about having an Event Planner onsite?

Liz was great from the minute we met her up until the day before our wedding, no question was ever too much for her. She was able to advise on ideas for the venue and provided us with so much assistance throughout. 

Did you have a theme? What was it and why did you choose it?

I’d say our theme was a tractors/farm yard. Having a tractor obsessed husband (now), meeting at young farmers and with my father having a small hold of sheep it seemed like the right theme for us. 

How did you personalise your wedding day? Where did you get your inspiration?

As per the theme above we had tractors galore at our wedding! From one of my grandfather’s vintage tractors and trailer in the barn which we had our wedding cheese cake displayed on before it was cut up for the guests to eat, to a surprise for Charlie in the shape of a vintage David Brown tractor is memory of his late father which was piped in after our ceremony and used in some of our pictures - both tractors suited the venue perfectly and were used for very personal and special reasons. The tractor theme was continued in the decor of the marquee and Galileo suite using Charlie’s childhood tractors in amongst the flowers beautifully created by Jillian and her team at Something Special flowers. To tie in with the theme and my love of sheep, our wedding cake designed by Celebration Station with a tractor on top and sheep dotted around the sides, not your typical wedding cake but perfect for us! 

How did you feel walking down the aisle/standing at the altar?

Walking down the aisle was probably my biggest fear for the day, I hate being centre of attention but honestly when it came down to it, with my Dad by my side and Charlie at the bottom it was absolutely fine, I didn’t notice anyone else in that room except from Charlie. 

What are some of the compliments you’ve received about your wedding day?

We’ve had many compliments about our wedding day from the way it was decorated to the Racecourse and the grounds. Giving the guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy the surrounds was exactly what we wanted and we were super lucky with the weather as the day before our wedding we were setting up in the pouring rain from the minute we started until the minute we stopped. 

Tell us about a favourite or memorable moment during your wedding?

I have two favourite parts to our day, the arrival of the surprise David Brown tractor, piped in for all to see making a very special memory. And after the meal we went down to the river with our photographer Siobhan Diamond and videographer David Gillan to capture images and videos by the river, we also got videoed walking through a barley field with the sunset behind us which made for beautiful video shots. 

Describe how you found the process of selecting your wedding menu?

Super hard!! There were so many options and for someone like myself, who is very fussy this was surprising. We thoroughly enjoyed our menu tasting. Liz and the catering team were great. 

How would you describe the service and quality of the food on your wedding day?

Exceptional, we had many compliments from guests on the food and service at our wedding. Claire was fabulous as were the rest of the catering staff, very professional. Could not fault the food or service one bit. 

What words of wisdom do you have for couples planning their wedding?

Go with your heart; focus on what you and your partner want from your wedding day. When you plan a wedding it’s easy to get bogged down by others and their opinions. Your wedding day is to celebrate you and your partner so plan the day of your dreams and everything will be magical.
