Family day gallops back to Perth Racecourse
A firm favourite in the racing calendar, Perth Racecourse’s Totepool Family Race Day is back this weekend as part of the Mackie’s of Scotland Summer Series. Taking place on Sunday (10 July) the annual family day will not only host a variety of free activities for the kids, but provide a full day of top class horse racing.
Sunday’s yearly meeting is expected to draw a large crowd of 5,000 to the northerly track, with kids going completely free.
With sunshine forecast for the weekend Mackie’s Ice Cream, the racecourse’s official ice cream supplier and summer sponsor, will be in attendance to showcase their delicious new flavours. A Scottish run family business making luxury ice cream, chocolate bars and crisps at their Aberdeenshire farm, samples of Mackie’s brand new Lemon Meringue Pie and Scottish Tablet ice cream will be on hand to cool guests in the expected July sunshine.
Mackie’s marketing director Karin Haynow said: “This is our second year as official ice cream supplier and sponsor at Perth Racecourse, and we are thrilled to be back. The partnership is a match made in heaven as our ice cream is the perfect treat when people are enjoying a great day out at the races.
“To celebrate the family focused event, we have organised for 40 of our own staff and their families to go along to Sunday’s meeting, and we’re sure that it will be a fantastic occasion.”
With ice cream and sunshine the order of the day, the racecourse will once again be opening the Centre Course enclosure so that racegoers can opt to relax with their own picnics from the boot of their car or even enjoy a disposable barbecue within the grounds.
To keep the little ones entertained all day, Crieff Hydro’s award winning activity arm, Action Glen, will be back for the third consecutive year and will deliver a variety of family-friendly, free entertainment from quad pods and Segway’s to bouncy castles, face painting, archery and pony rides.
As one of the most cost effective family days out in the sporting arena, Perth Racecourse are proud to offer free entry and activities for children and hope that people will take advantage of the fun-filled family day out.
Not only a fantastic day out for the whole family to enjoy, the Totepool meeting will also see a day of first class horse racing. With seven races scheduled for the day, the meeting continues to draw in champion trainers and jockeys from across the UK and Ireland.
Irish trainer Gordon Elliot, who has celebrated recent success at the racecourse, said: “I really enjoy having runners at Perth and I have a lot of history at the racecourse. The northerly track has been very lucky for me, and myself and my owners thoroughly enjoy coming here.
“I am looking forward to the upcoming meeting and I will have plenty of runners - and hopefully a few winners.”
For any tennis fans worried about missing the Wimbledon final, Perth Racecourse will be screening all of the live action.
