Local Hero Eve Muirhead OBE Coming to Family Raceday
Summer sunshine is forecast for Perth Racecourse’s Family Raceday this Sunday and there will be an additional golden touch with local hero and Olympic curling champion Eve Muirhead in attendance.
Perth-born Muirhead, who added a glittering gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics to her vast collection of medals, will take in the day’s racing alongside fellow Beijing medallist Vicky Wright, as well as former team-mate Vicki Adams (who Muirhead won Olympic bronze alongside in 2014).
Perth’s Family Raceday, to which under-18s can enjoy free entry, will be the latest sporting stop for Muirhead this summer after recent appearances in the Royal Box at Wimbledon as well as filming TV’s A Question of Sport. The 32-year-old, who curls out of the Dunkeld Curling Club based in Pitlochry, will meet fellow racegoers at Perth on Sunday afternoon, be interviewed in the Parade Ring and sign racecards for young fans – who might even get to see one or two medals.
Eve Muirhead said: “A day out at Perth races is one sporting event I’ve yet to enjoy so I really am looking forward to it as a ‘local’, and to be able to do so with two of my best friends and team-mates from my curling career will make it all the more special. Family Raceday sounds like the perfect event to enjoy live sport with all generations of racegoers who I look forward to meeting on the day, hopefully with some good weather to match the great racing!”
Eve, Vicki and Vicky will enjoy the day’s racing from the Grandstand Enclosure, from where an Explore Racing Day will allow racegoers to gain more information and ask questions about opportunities for becoming involved in racing, and the career paths available. In addition, the Scottish Racing Academy will have the special “equicizer” that racegoers can test out their riding skills on.
Meantime, over in the Picnic Enclosure is where visitors and especially families will find all the fun kids’ activities guaranteed to keep the little ones entertained. All activities are completely free and include a bouncy castle, large ball pool, pillow bash, 50ft assault course, surf simulator, gladiator duel and circus candy slide.
Perth Racecourse CEO Hazel Peplinski said: “Everyone at Perth Racecourse is thrilled that Eve, Vicki and Vicky will be joining us as special guests for another fantastic day of racing this Sunday. Eve’s exploits and achievements in Beijing this summer had us all hooked to our tellies – it will be fantastic to hear all about the Winter Olympics experience, and other stories from her amazing curling career, in person at Perth.
“Our Family Raceday, with free entry for under-18s, offers terrific value and is the perfect way to spend a fun-packed summer holiday Sunday at Perth, with seven live races, free family entertainment and lots of information and activities related to careers in racing, all packed into one afternoon!”
