Racing For Everyone As Perth And British Racing Show Their Support For #Pride2019
Perth Racecourse will join British Racing in supporting Pride and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community when it hosts its Afternoon Raceday this coming Thursday (July 4).
The UK-wide ‘Racing For Everyone’ initiative aims to unite the sport and make all racing environments more inclusive for all. Perth is supporting the awareness campaign with messaging including social media content and has also renamed a race as part of its raceday activities, with the Racing For Everyone #RacingWithPride Handicap Steeple Chase taking place at 4.10pm on Thursday afternoon.
It is one of seven races on the card for Perth’s Afternoon Raceday, the first of four meetings in July, with all under-18s enjoying free entry at a fixture which falls during the first week of the Scottish school holidays.
Hazel Peplinski, Perth Racecourse Chief Executive, said: “Our first July Afternoon Raceday is the perfect way to start the summer holiday season, with free entry for all under-18s making it an affordable option for families to enjoy a day at Perth races. Everything is looking good for Thursday as we have attracted tremendous entries promising fabulous racing, the good weather is holding out for us and we are laying on a wide array of food and drink to suit every budget. Whilst we are not expecting a large crowd I am encouraged that advance sales for Thursday have doubled compared to this time last year.”
“In addition, Perth Racecourse is proud to support #Pride2019 and the genuine Racing For Everyone message which is being promoted by racing venues across the UK just now as we celebrate 50 years of the Pride movement. We believe in creating a truly inclusive sport and this is just one small step towards making racing welcoming for everyone.”
After Thursday’s Afternoon Raceday, Perth hosts its annual Family Raceday on Sunday, 14 July before the double header of an evening meeting on Tuesday, 30 July and another afternoon fixture on Wednesday, 31 July.
