Wakool and the gang aiming for Perth
RECENTLY-crowned champion conditional rider Danny McMenamin is after more success in the feature race at Perth on Wednesday evening with his locally-trained mount Wakool.
Nick Alexander’s Kinneston raider faces 12 rivals in the £8,000 Salutation Hotel, Scotland’s Most Historic Hotel Handicap Hurdle.
McMenamin, who was 12 winners clear of his nearest challenger last season, said: “I haven’t ridden him before but he was a good second last time at Kelso on his comeback after a break and should benefit from this slightly longer trip.”
The likely favourite is last month’s Huntingdon scorer Rock The House, trained in Warwickshire by Olly Murphy who saddled six winners at Perth during the 2020-21 campaign.
Fortunes Hiding carries the colours made famous by 2017 Grand National hero One For Arthur in the Bruce Farms “Grass Roots” Hunters’ Chase.
The eight-year-old is ridden and trained by Ailsa McClung and his opponents include recent point to point winner Royal Chant partnered by the vastly-experienced John Dawson.
Charlotte Jones has a healthy course strike-rate and her only ride of the night is on Wise Coco for Alistair Whillans in the Dunkeld House Hotel Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.
Charlotte, who is based with Cartmel trainer Jimmy Moffatt, has ridden five winners from just 14 mounts at Perth with three of them coming last season.
