Perth Racecourse welcomes in the first of the winter jump season horses this week, at the historic Glorious Finale fixture on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 September.
The two-day celebration marks the transition from the summer jump season to the UK and Irish Winter campaign, attracting leading trainers, jockeys and owners eager to make their mark.
Matthew Taylor, Director of Racing at Perth Racecourse, commented, “The Glorious Finale is always one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures of the year. With two afternoons of edge-of-the-seat jump racing, live entertainment, and hospitality, it is always a fantastic event to see out the summer jump season.
“On Wednesday we have the two-time Perth Gold Cup Winner, Statuario, returning to Perth for his third race this season. And then on Thursday, we’ll welcome Patrick Neville with The Real Whacker, a Grade One Cheltenham Festival winner. Patrick’s horse will run over hurdles in the 16.18 Class 2 Handicap Hurdle; this is a new race for us at Perth so we’re very pleased at having such a brilliant entry to set the standard.
“Locally, we’re supported by Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore, as well as Nick Alexander all of whom always do well at Perth. It should be a fantastic two days!”
With the end of the season in sight, Perth Racecourse’s Owner, Trainer and Jockey Championship League, sponsored by Edinburgh Gin, is also heating up. The battle for the 2025 season cups sees leading trainers Olly Murphy, training duo Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore, and Gordon Elliott all pushing for the title.
Sean Bowen heads the jockey standings, while Simon Munir and Isaac Souede are neck-and-neck with John Nicholls Racing and Mrs Diana L. Whately in the race for the owner’s prize.
Behind the scenes, the Best Turned Out Championship, sponsored by Equine Products UK, recognises the hard work of stable teams and the immaculate presentation of horses. Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore, and Lisa Harrison are currently in close competition for this coveted prize.
Morag Connaghan, Director of Operations commented, “The Thursday crowd is sitting 35% up on 2024 which is a fantastic end to this historic event. I think its safe to say we’re expecting an electric atmosphere here at Perth Racecourse as the curtain comes down on the Glorious Finale.”
