Sir Carnegie Powers to Feature-Race Glory

Sir Carnegie produced a bold front-running display to land the £15,000 feature race at Perth Racecourse under three-time champion jockey Brian Hughes.

Trained by Mickey Bowen, the well-backed 2/1 chance was sent straight to the front in the Auto Services Mercedes Benz Truck Aftersales Handicap Chase and never looked back, seeing off Regal Renaissance by five lengths to record another impressive success at the Scone track.

“He loves it here – that’s his second win and he’s rarely run a bad race,” said winning trainer Mickey Bowen. “Brian made a lot more use of him as he didn’t feel there was going to be a lot of pace on.”

The victory completed a double on the afternoon for Hughes, who had earlier been successful aboard Follow Your Luck.

There were doubles elsewhere on the card too, with champion jockey Sean Bowen and Irish trainer Gordon Elliott both enjoying a productive afternoon after teaming up for victories with Cosmos D’Ainay and Down Around.

Inappropriate was another eye-catching winner, bouncing back to form in style for trainer Ewan Whillans and jockey Sean Quinlan in the Auto Services Perth 24-Hour Recovery Handicap Hurdle.

Sent off at 15/2, he powered clear to defeat Castleheath by two and a half lengths, putting a disappointing recent Flat outing firmly behind him.

“It’s good to see him bounce back after a moderate run on the Flat the other day,” said Whillans. “We’ll probably keep him on the go while the ground is nice and it’s always good to have a dual-purpose horse or two in the yard.”
