Perth Festival

Hold onto your Racing Post!  Perth's Summer Jump Season is here and as always, opens with the thrilling, three-day Perth Festival.

From Wednesday 26th to Friday 28th April, you will find the very best of British and Irish racing coming together for our celebrated opening fixture including all the showmanship and excitement of the heart-stopping Highland National (Day 3).

Fun! Fun! Fun! An On-course Party Atmosphere Like No Other

Owners, trainers, jockeys including some of the industry’s most loved personalities will head to Britain’s most northerly course to provide exhilarating horsemanship and be greeted with the warmest of Highland hospitality.

We'll be hosted and presented by the wonderful Jim Delahunt with the finest horseracing commentary courtesy of Gareth Topham live from the track at Perth. As well as our own racing, you’re also going to enjoy rousing sporting action from across the Irish Sea at Punchestown up on our big screens so be sure to study the form from both tracks. In summary, it will be non-stop National Hunt drama at every turn!

Of course, your day out wouldn’t be complete without the big party atmosphere that has given Perth Festival its well-earned reputation as one of the best days out on Scotland’s social calendar. Live music to welcome you in each and every day, quality business networking from Scottish Chambers (Day 1); look out too for some freshly renovated facilities waiting to serve you your favourite tipples to keep you fully refreshed.

So check out the dates, share with your friends, look out your lucky hats and be sure to join us in celebrating the meeting of the year here at Perth.

Remember: There is still plenty of exciting news yet to be announced so favourite our website.

FEATURED RACING HIGHLIGHTS

WEDNESDAY 26th APRIL – Day One - Future Champions Listed Novice Hurdle Race

The waiting is over as Perth starts its 2017 season with a bang!  The Day 1 festival feature is the £20,000 British Stallions Future Champions EBF 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle which has been upgraded to Listed status (the category just below Grade class) for the first time this year.

Last April it went to Up For Review, an impressive eight-length winner in the hands of Paul Townend and a first ever Perth success for champion Irish trainer Willie Mullins, but it's a strong supporting card this year and includes a valuable handicap chase. We’re off!

THURSDAY 27th APRIL – Day Two sees the biggest prize pot of the Three Day Festival at £25K

Day Two sees more of the same fantastic racing with jockeys, owners, trainers and racegoers renowned for their stamina at the Perth Festival!  A £25,000 highlight in the Handicap Chase over 2m 4f does help to focus the mind of our party-minded Horsemen however!

The race has been dominated in recent times by Witness In Court ; trained in Cheshire by Donald McCain and carrying the familiar colours of Tim Leslie, he's raided Perthshire for this fantastic loot for two years on the trot. Boom! Boom!

FRIDAY 28th APRIL – Day Three Welcomes In The Highland National

After two days of racing, and two nights of celebrating, we're back on course for Day 3 with the main event, the much-heralded £20,000 Highland National.  The Highland National has grown in both reputation and stature over the years and at over 3 Miles 6 Furlongs is the longest race staged at Perth all season.  Celebrated by the industry and punters alike, it never fails to have a competitive entry and produces a truly worthy winner. Gather around to help cheer the gallant horses home!

Scottish trainers have a good recent record with last year's renewal going to Iain Jardine-trained Double Whammy while Nick and Lucy Alexander won in 2014 with Bertie Milan.

HAZEL’S HOT TIP - straight from the chief exec’s sources to you!

It’s still early but Hazel has her eye on a trainer from the deepest South who specifically targets Perth’s incredible prize-money whilst entertaining his Owners in beautiful Perthshire; he rarely goes home empty-handed………watch this space.
