Grand Clermont powers to feature race victory as thousands enjoy an action-packed Family Raceday in support of Saints in the Community.
Perth Racecourse welcomed racegoers of all ages for a fantastic day of summer racing and family entertainment on Sunday as Family Raceday, in support of Saints in the Community, proved to be another huge success.
With children enjoying a packed programme of free activities throughout the Picnic Enclosure, including inflatables, the Muckmedden Cycle Track, Alba Therapy Ponies, the SRA Equicizer, giant games and plenty of sweet treats, there was a brilliant atmosphere across the racecourse from the moment the gates opened. Families embraced the sunshine, picnics and exciting racing action, making it a memorable day out for everyone.
On the track, Grand Clermont produced a dominant display to land the £15,000 feature Sport, Education & Wellbeing Handicap Chase for Somerset trainer David Pipe.
Sent off the 3/1 favourite, he took control on the final circuit before powering clear to defeat Walk On Quest by six and a half lengths.
Winning jockey Rian Corcoran said: "For an older horse he still seems to be improving and he's done that really well. He was far from disgraced in the Summer Cup at Market Rasen last time and David's horses are flying at the moment."
Corcoran had already celebrated his first Perth winner, on just his second ride at the course, after steering Gordon Elliott's Holy Joe to victory in the Book Your Christmas Party Novices' Hurdle, defeating Dolly Dior by three and a quarter lengths.
There was another impressive performance in the Sun Racing Summer Jumps Championship Handicap Chase, where Conquer The Breeze, ridden by Ryan Mania, recorded his fourth success of the season for Northumberland trainer Adam Nicol.
Nicol said: "He's just in such great form at the moment and Ryan said he probably hit the front a bit too soon. He was second in this race last year off a much lower mark and he jumped like a cat.
"We might try him in a better race but we'll have to wait as there isn't much for him after this. We could back off him and then bring him back for something at the Charlie Hall meeting in the autumn."
Scottish trainers also enjoyed a successful afternoon, with Lets Mingle giving Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore another Perth winner, while Follow Charlie scored for local trainer Mike Smith.
Away from the racing, the family-friendly entertainment was in full swing throughout the day, with youngsters making the most of the activities while parents relaxed and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. Family Raceday once again showcased why it has become one of Perth Racecourse's most popular fixtures of the season.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, as well as our owners, trainers, jockeys, stable staff, sponsors, volunteers, Saints in the Community and all of our hardworking team for helping make the day such a success. We hope you had a fantastic time and look forward to welcoming you back to Perth Racecourse again very soon.
